Presidents Cup 2023

Roy Parmiter welcomed twelve other current and past Captains of Captains and the serving Secretary to Long Sutton for the annual Presidents Cup on a pleasantly bright and still day.

The Captains of Captains were Roy Parmiter (2012), David Bate (2023), John Beer (2019), Colin Davies (2007), Rob Ford (2022), Steve Butterfield (2020/1), Iain Robertson ((2013), John Chillington (2008), Bob Acland (2014), Chris Warcup (2016), Ben Gliddon (2009), Mike Usher-Clark (2011) and Brian Reeves (2005).

Apologies were received from Andy Carter, David Andow, Frank Ryan, George Davis, John Vernon, Jim Scott and Trevor Jenkins.

The still conditions and well-presented course yielded some good scores despite the increasingly challenging nature of the Long Sutton layout which seems to get better every year.  The catering team excelled throughout the day and the players certainly left Long Sutton well-fed and watered even if they were going home without a prize!

The golf was pretty good at times and not so good at others with the course mainly winning out against the competitors.  Brian Reeves and Bob Acland won prizes for the best front and back nine scores and Chris Warcup and Mike Usher-Clarke claimed the team prize based on Roy’s hidden draw for partners.

In the main event, John Beer lost out to the holder of the President’s Cup from 2022, Mike Usher-Clarke, who returned a score of 41 points to retain the trophy.  Well done to Mike who gave a heartfelt tribute to Roy at the conclusion of the event for arranging the day and for his ongoing work as SGC President.
